MetaNews
Some rambling thoughts on a system that is designed to completely replace
USENET news. It relies on the World Wide Web as a transport mechanism for
the actual news articles. In a nutshell, the news system shuttles around
the metadata about articles, such that ``metanews servers'' can generate
indexes of articles that are available for news reading clients. When the
client requests an article, the server program will retrieve it on the
clients behalf and then send it to the client.
